Privacy Notice
Your privacy is deeply respected here.

Reaching out for support takes courage. I want you to feel safe, seen, and respected from the very first moment — including how your personal information is handled.
Who I am
I’m Dom, a UK-based counsellor offering therapeutic support through my practice, Therapy with Dom. I’m registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and committed to upholding UK data protection laws, including the UK GDPR.

What I collect — and why
When you contact me or become a client, I may collect:

-
Your name and contact details (email, phone number)
-
Information you choose to share in messages or forms
-
GP surgery details and a next of kin or emergency contact — to help keep you safe in case of serious concern
-
Session notes (if we work together)
I only collect what’s necessary to support your care, respond to your enquiries, and meet professional standards.

How I use your data
I use your information to:

-
Respond to your messages and enquiries
-
Provide counselling services
-
Manage appointments and payments
-
Keep records in line with ethical and legal requirements
I will never, in any form, sell your data or use it for marketing.

Online therapy
If you choose to work with me online, I use secure, GDPR and HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect your privacy. This includes encrypted video calls, secure messaging, and confidential record-keeping. I take every reasonable step to ensure your information is safe, whether we meet in person or virtually.
Confidentiality
Everything you share with me is held in confidence. I only break confidentiality if required by law or if there’s a serious risk of harm — and I’ll always aim to discuss this with you first, unless it’s unsafe to do so.

How I store your data
Your data is stored securely using encrypted systems, password protection and two-factor authentication. I retain records for the time required by professional guidelines (typically 7 years for adult clients) and then delete them safely.
Your rights
You have the right to:

-
You are allowed to see your notes. If you’d like to do this, just send me a formal request and I’ll guide you through the process..
-
I keep counselling records for 7 years after our work together ends, in line with professional guidance. After that, they are securely deleted.
-
If your personal details change — such as your name or address — I’m happy to update your records. Just let me know.
-
Under UK GDPR, you can request that your personal data be erased. I’ll always consider your request with care. However, there are some exceptions — for example, counselling records may need to be retained to meet legal, ethical, or insurance requirements.
-
I follow the standards set by professional bodies and insurers, who ask that records be kept for the timeframes outlined above.
If you’d like to exercise any of these rights or ask questions, just email me at contact@therapywithdom.co.uk.
