About Therapy

What is Therapy?

Psychotherapy, counselling, or simply therapy—these terms are often used interchangeably. They describe a scientifically tested and effective process aimed at relieving emotional distress and supporting mental health.

Therapy sessions provide a safe, confidential space to talk with a trained professional about your concerns, challenges, and emotional wellbeing. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in a way that fosters insight, healing, and autonomy.

The goal of therapy is to help you regain full agency over your life.

What to (and not to) expect?

Many clients with no prior knowledge of therapy, hope that the therapist will sort their problems out for them.

However, a therapist won’t give you direct advice, opinions, or prescribe medication. Instead, they may offer psychoeducation and information to support your understanding—but they won’t tell you what to think or do.

Therapy is a collaborative process. It requires your active engagement, and both you and your therapist take shared responsibility for the journey.

You’ll be encouraged to bring your own issues to each session. You’ll never be judged—no matter what you share. Together, we’ll build a relationship based on trust, honesty, and acceptance, so you can feel safe enough to explore what’s really troubling you.

This process is supported by skilful questioning and the use of therapeutic models, techniques, and tools tailored to your needs.

My Approach

I offer trauma-informed counselling in Malvern, Hereford, and online. My approach blends traditional talking therapy, and creative exploration of moments when we get stuck, clearing our minds and reconnecting back to them through mindfulness and the healing power of nature (only if you’re happy to have a walk and talk during our session! It's an opportunity to reflect and reconnect in the healing presence of nature).

Mind hacks, cognitive corrections and coping mechanisms are here for a specific reason: to make ourselves feel safe and in control.

During our sessions we’re not striving to learn perfection. It’s about witnessing and accepting your full human experience, and gently assessing which survival strategies still serve you—and which may need to evolve.

Therapy doesn’t always feel great. Some people stop because sessions get hard. Others start because a lifetime spent fighting in the dark—with themselves and the world around them—is even harder.

So, how do we get the light in? Simple, but not easy: we feel the feelings. All of them.

We haven’t been given a manual for this liberating, but often challenging process. But you don’t have to do it alone.

I’m very aware that there are many factors (work, family, money, ambitions, social norms, and expectations to name a few) that try to talk us out of the simple act of feeling. I also believe that admitting you’re not okay—and asking for help—is an act of courage.
